Yes – that really is Africa on the horizon!

When the air is clear, you can distinctly make out the mountains of the Rif range some 130 km away. In good light they trace the horizon around the northern Moroccan city of Chefchaouen. The shortest line of sight is roughly 125 km and meets the small villages around Oulad Ali Mansour and Boukrim.
We should be honest, though: this little highlight is only rarely visible. So far we have only been able to enjoy this far-reaching view a handful of times. In our experience it is clear enough to recognise Africa on roughly 1–2 days per month. On all other days, the seemingly endless Mediterranean stretches out at your feet.
